Cathedral!

The first demo for our project “Songs for the High Sierra.” Terrain is is about songs of hope and wonder and appreciation.

More background from “Yosemite Place Names”… “The peak was named by the California Geological Survey in 1863. ‘From a high ridge, crossed just before reaching Lake Tenaya, we had a fine view of a very prominent, exceedingly grand landmark through all the region, and to which the name Cathedral Peak has been given… The majesty of its form and its dimensions are such that any work of human hands would sink into insignificance if placed beside it…’ – Josiah Whitney 1863”
Thanks to Eric Martin for lead electric mandolin.

Welcome the Terrain!

For the uninitiated… Our current project is “Songs for the High Sierra” about time on the John Muir Trail, America’s premier hiking trail. Starting in Yosemite National Park the trail continues 215 miles through the Ansel Adams Wilderness, the John Muir Wilderness, Sequoia National Park, King’s Canyon National Park, and ends at the highest peak in continental United States, Mount Whitney at 14,496 ft.
For this project, our words and music are inspired by the trail, and the life and writings of John Muir.
“Walk away quietly in any direction and taste the freedom of the mountaineer. Camp out among the grasses and gentians of glacial meadows, in craggy garden nooks full of nature’s darlings. Climb the mountains and get their good tidings, Nature’s peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. The winds will blow their own freshness into you and the storms their energy, while cares will drop off like autumn leaves. As age comes on, one source of enjoyment after another is closed, but nature’s sources never fail.“
– John Muir
